If you thought that planting in August is over, you’re wrong! There are still some hidden gems you can try growing – perennials.
I tried growing them last season, and it was the best decision I ever made! These plants bloomed in my garden until the first frost. They’re pretty easy to maintain, which is a big plus!
I won’t keep them a secret anymore! So get ready for planting because this August won’t be the same without these blossoms in your garden!
Lavender Might Drive Away Unwelcome Guests From Your Garden
Lavender is the perfect plant if you want your garden to smell fantastic. Every time you pass by, its scent will leave you breathless and less stressed! Bring your favorite book, lie next to your flowers, and enjoy the day.
These plants are also great natural repellents for pests. Plant them near your crops, and there won’t be any signs of damaged veggies or plants!
Plant lavender in a sunny spot in your garden. As for watering, do it every two or three weeks!
Plant Dahlias For An Amazing Landscape
Another beautiful perennial you can plant in August is dahlias. They come in lovely pastel colors such as pink, yellow, purple, and black! They will make your garden look stunning all summer, even until early fall. Isn’t that awesome?
Dahlias need to be planted in direct sunlight and get at least six to eight hours a day. You’ll need to water them once a week.
Attract Beneficial Pollinators With African Lilies
African lilies come in blue, purple, and white. If you plant them in August, they will bloom until early autumn. Not only are they show-stoppers, but lilies can attract beneficial pollinators to your garden. Bees and butterflies love flying over these flowers!
These plants love full sun but can tolerate some shade. If you live in an area with less sunlight, you can still grow them. Water them every one to two weeks!
Don’t Let August Pass Without Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas are one of my all-time favorites! They’re guests in my garden every year and their leafy bushes make a perfect match with other flowers in my backyard.
They come in pink, red, blue, purple, and white. To keep their petals blooming until the first frost, plant them somewhere that gets partial sunlight. Hydrangeas need to be watered three times a week!
African Marigolds Will Add Unique Flavor To Your Dishes
Believe it or not, you can use their flowers in salads or soups. They can add an interesting flavor to your dishes. You should try it after they bloom! Who knows, maybe you’ll like it?
African marigolds come in beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red! Their fiery petals are perfect for closing out summer and welcoming fall.
It’s best to plant them in a full sun location in your yard. Water them every three days, as they need plenty of hydration to thrive.
Luckily, perennials are here to save your garden in late summer. The best thing about them is that they can bloom until early autumn. If the weather plays nice, you could enjoy an extended blooming period!
Now, roll up your sleeves and plant these blossoms. You still have enough time to do it!
