Plant These 5 Shade-Loving Hosta Alternatives For A Show-Stopping Display

Sharing is caring!

Hostas are leafy perennials that come in different varieties of colors, textures, and shapes! Their beautiful leaves decorate gardens all over the world.

Unfortunately, there are cases where hostas sometimes may not thrive in the yard. That happened to me a few years ago. My hostas weren’t growing at all, and since they are one of my favorite plants, I started searching for some alternatives!

In a very short time, I was able to find them, and I immediately started planting these amazing perennials. Let me tell you that they were the perfect choice for replacing my hostas. They started thriving in my garden without any complications, as these plants were the easiest I’ve grown!

Do you also want plants that look exactly like hostas in your garden this season? Let’s see my list of these amazing five perennials!

#1 This Plant Will Make Stunning Ground Cover For Your Shady Spot

Siberian Bugloss’ heart-shaped leaves are one of the prettiest for decoration as ground cover! Their leaves have a beautiful green color, making them an excellent alternative to traditional hosta varieties.

You’ll need to place Siberian Bugloss in a shady part of your garden. These plants may survive in partial shade, but only with lots of moisture, so it’s better not to risk it! As for watering, do it every couple of days.

These amazing perennials are truly the easiest you can choose to grow. With just a little care, they will add a touch of elegance and charm to your garden!

#2 Add Charming Greyish Foliage With Lady’s Mantle

Lady’s Mantle’s grayish-green leaves are covered in tiny soft hairs and perfect for planting underneath small trees. They will create the most beautiful cottage vibes and make you feel like you’re in a fairy tale!

They will do well in partially shaded spots in your yard. You’ll need to water them more than once per week. Especially if you live in an area where temperatures are high!

#3 Leopard Plant Brings Jungle Vibes To Your Yard

Leopard plant’s have deep green foliage with charming yellow marks (you’ll bring some wild jungle vibes into your garden). Isn’t that adorable? They are also low-maintenance perennials, so it will be a piece of cake to grow them!

These plants won’t tolerate the sun at all! Direct sun may cause leopard plants to wilt or even burn, which is the worst-case scenario. Keep them consistently moist, but make sure they don’t get waterlogged. Water only when the soil feels dry!

#4 Bring A Pop Of Color With Heartleaf Bergenia

Do you want to bring some more colors besides green to your garden? Heartleaf bergenia foliage looks the same as hostas but has some pretty pink flowers, too! Adding these adorable perennials will be a big hit in your garden!

How do you get heartleaf bergenia to thrive? Well, you’ll need to give them a partially shaded spot in your garden. As they are drought-resistant, there’s no need to water them every day, only when the soil has truly dried out!

#5 Check Out The Magical Leaves Of Caladium That Look Like Works Of Art!

Caladium leaves are some of the most special I’ve ever seen! Their foliage is heart-shaped with pink lines that run through the middle of the leaf, looking as if someone took a leaf and painted it.

Mother Nature is truly a work of art, providing the most unique plants! Isn’t that awesome?

These plants will thrive only in shade, so make sure to provide them a place in your garden where the sunlight can’t reach them! Caladiums will need watering once a week when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Ready for your garden’s most amazing transformation with these show-stopping hosta alternatives? All of the plants I’ve shown you will be perfect for getting even more beautiful foliage!

Also, if you follow these growing tricks, you’ll ensure that they thrive in your garden for many years. Now all you need to do is choose the ones that caught your eye the most, or maybe plant all of them? Why not? Especially if your garden is big enough for them to fit in!

I must admit that I have each of these planted in my garden because I really couldn’t decide which to choose. Whatever you decide, be sure that you’ll get the most amazing display ever!

Good luck!
