Isn’t it great that birds get to cool off during hot summer days? If you’re planning to buy a birdbath, providing local birds with a little pool is a fantastic way to make your garden their perfect hangout spot.
They’ll become frequent visitors, providing you with their sweet melodies. I also have one in my backyard because I’m a huge fan of birds. They always cheer me up as they fly over my flowers! It’s the cutest scene, and it’s all thanks to my birdbath.
But there’s one catch! A birdbath needs to be positioned correctly or you might have to say goodbye to all the amazing birds you could attract. Luckily, I have some tricks to help you find the perfect spot.
Be Careful, Shaded Areas May Be Tricky
The ideal spot for a birdbath is in a shaded area. This helps keep the water fresh and provides the best experience for the birds. Another benefit is that it reduces algae growth, so the birdbath stays clean and tidy throughout the season.
You might think that placing a birdbath under trees is a perfect option, but that’s not always the case. I used to think the same until I found that, over time, my birdbath filled with leaves and even ripe fruits falling from trees.
So, it’s best to avoid placing it directly under trees unless you have a parasol to protect it. It’s better to find a naturally shaded spot. I placed mine in my backyard, where there’s less sun, and it worked perfectly!
Placing It Near A Bird Feeder Might Be A Smart Move
If you have a bird feeder, that’s definitely a big plus! Placing it near a birdbath is a brilliant idea. You’ll be providing them with delicious snacks for their pool day.
After they’ve had their bath, their favorite food will be just a few steps away. Birds won’t have to fly miles to find treats. They’ll spread the word to all the birds in your area that your garden is the best one!
One little tip before you place it. Fill the feeder with plenty of seeds or fruits and change the water twice a day, especially if it’s very hot outside!
Keep Your Birdbath Far Away From Windows
Placing your birdbath near windows isn’t a good idea! Birds can fly right into them, which can lead to serious injuries. I know you want an adorable view from your window. Who wouldn’t? But for their health, you need to be cautious and keep it far away from the glass.
If you don’t have enough space in your garden and this is your only option, install decals. They will help protect the birds from getting hurt. You can also use stickers on the glass to make it more visible for the birds!
Make Sure Pets Stay Out Of Reach
It’s a good idea to place your birdbath in a spot where your pets can’t reach it, especially if you have cats!
The ideal height for a birdbath is three to five feet. That way, you will provide them with a safe place to enjoy bathing!
By following these steps, you’ll be able to provide an ideal spot for the birds!
Birdies won’t be wandering around searching for a better place when they have a perfect birdbath in your yard. Every time you go out for a walk in your garden, you’ll be able to enjoy and relax to their lovely melodies!
If you don’t have one, you should get one right away! You now know the right answer, and all that’s left is to place it in your backyard. I even have three birds that have become frequent guests for almost six months now! Maybe I’ve even tamed them, and now it’s your turn!
