9 Adorable Dwarf Trees Perfect For Your Small Garden And Patio

Sharing is caring!

Bringing trees into your garden can benefit you in so many ways! Trees clean the air, reduce stress, attract wildlife, and can cool your garden during summer. These are just a few of the reasons you should consider growing them.

But what if you don’t have enough space to grow them? Don’t worry, I’ve got a perfect solution for you – dwarf trees! You can grow these trees in your small garden or even on a patio. Isn’t that amazing?

My backyard was unfortunately too small for planting trees, despite the fact that I wanted to grow them for years! After a few days of researching, I discovered dwarf trees. But that wasn’t the only good news! I didn’t just discover one, but nine trees that I could grow in my tiny garden.

I couldn’t believe that I finally had nine trees to grow in my garden. After all these years of thinking that there weren’t any trees that would fit in my yard, I ended up finding some really beautiful ones!

Now I want to share these wonderful dwarf trees with you because I know how hard it can be to find one that will suit your garden perfectly!

#1 Japanese Maple Will Give Your Garden A Show-Stopping Display For Every Season

I must admit, this is the first dwarf tree that truly caught my attention! These trees have beautifully colored leaves, including red, green, white, purple, and pink (depending on the season).

In spring, you’ll see more reddish leaves, and in summer they’ll be adorned with green! These trees are truly something special, and they’ll thrive in your garden throughout the season, providing a colorful display. Now that’s a tree worth growing!

These trees can handle full sun, but it’s best to give them some afternoon shade! You’ll need to water them two to three times a month. This will help you avoid overwatering, which can be fatal for these trees!

#2 Dwarf River Birch Will Fit Your Containers Perfectly

Do you have an extra container sitting in your garden? That’s great because you’re going to use it to plant dwarf river birch! You can even place them on your patio because they are pretty small trees.

Dwarf river birch has a rich green color with diamond-shaped leaves! In fall, they will turn into a nice yellow, styling your garden perfectly.

You can place these trees in full sun or partial shade, as they can tolerate both! They love moist soil and that’s why you’ll need to water them two to three times a week. With this watering schedule, they will have strong and healthy growth!

#3 Fig Tree’s Fruits Are Great For Your Health

Now what about bringing some tropical vibes into your garden? Fig trees have an exotic appearance with lobed leaves and delicious fruits that will add a tropical feel to your landscape!

These trees can produce their remarkable fruits in the first year of growing! That’s the most fascinating thing I discovered about these trees. Figs are great for boosting your health because they contain vitamins and calcium!

Fig trees grow best in full sun. The more sun these trees get, the more fruits they’ll produce, so place them in the sunniest part of your garden! To get abundant fruits to harvest you’ll need to water them once a week.

#4 Dwarf Magnolia’s Magnificent Flowers Will Bring Elegance To Your Garden

Dwarf magnolia is a stunning flowering tree that will win your heart over and over again every time you see its stunning colorful blooms! These trees have pink, red, white, and yellow flowers, perfect for transforming your garden into paradise.

Make sure to place your dwarf magnolias in an area where they will receive at least six to eight hours of sunlight. Newly planted dwarf magnolias need to be watered every two to three days. Once established, you can reduce watering!

#5 Make A Delicious Jam From Dwarf Everbearing Fruits

Here comes another tree that produces sweet fruits – dwarf everbearing! These trees have bright green leaves with red and black berries. The berries that you can pick from these trees have a similar taste to blackberries! They are a perfect addition to smoothies and jams.

Even though dwarf everbearing trees can tolerate light shade, it’s best not to risk it and place them in full sun! Regular watering is the key to their growth. That’s why you’ll need to water them once a week, or even more in dry periods!

#6 Dwarf Australian Finger Lime Has Interesting-Looking Fruits You’ll Adore

You’re going to be amazed once you see those funny-looking Australian finger lime fruits! Their fruits are small and resemble fingers. These fruits taste like lime and, because of their bitter aroma, you can use them in salads or cocktails!

Where should you place an Australian finger lime? The answer is in full sun! You can plant them in containers and place these trees where they will receive at least six hours of sunlight.

When they are in their flowering and fruiting stage, you’ll need to water them constantly! Two to three times a week is a must.

#7 The Fragrant White Flowers Of The Seven-Son Tree Are A Must For Your Summer Garden

If you want to get that ‘wow’ effect in your backyard during summer, a seven-son tree will help you achieve that! These trees have glossy leaves with white flowers that smell wonderful.

Do you know who also adores the sweet scent your seven-son tree produces? Hummingbirds! These pollinators love flying over these trees, which will benefit your garden a lot!

Seven-son trees can be placed in full sun or partial shade. You should water these trees weekly to provide the moisture they need to thrive

#8 Thuja Is An Excellent Tree For Providing The Privacy You Need

Do you want to enjoy your privacy without any pesky eyes peeking into your garden? Well, you don’t have to grow large trees to get the privacy screen you want, thuja will work perfectly!

Thuja is a green colored, globe shaped shrub that is perfect for fencing off your garden. These trees will also thrive in winter, making a beautiful decoration to your garden when covered in a white blanket!

Thuja needs at least six hours of sunlight to thrive! You should water thuja every two days for the first three months. Once thuja gets established you can reduce watering to ten days!

#9 Pollinators Will Adore Your Weeping Redbud

If you want to attract different types of beneficial pollinators, but at the same time bring some color to your garden, I know a tree that has it all – the weeping redbud! These trees have pink and purple flowers, similar to pea plants.

Place weeping redbud trees in the full sun because they can’t tolerate shade. Shaded areas can result in fewer flowers! Check the soil before watering, if it’s dry then grab your garden hose and water them.

Growing one of these dwarf trees will bring you a beautiful landscape, pollinators, and sweet scents! Isn’t that fascinating?

Trust me, once you see how wonderfully they can fit into small spaces in your garden, you’ll be amazed! All that’s left is to prepare some containers or free up space in your garden and grow them!

Good luck!
