New day, new plant! Today’s sensation is the Gerbera daisy, a flower that will leave everyone who sees it speechless.
A few months ago, my friends surprised me with a pack of Gerbera seeds. Every year, they give me a brand new variety that I’ve never planted before and challenge me to grow them.
Thanks to some amazing gardening hacks I’ve learned for daisy growth, I had the situation in the palm of my hand! That’s why they bloomed throughout the whole season in my yard.
If you want to make your garden a colorful paradise, then you should give Gerberas a try. All you need to do is prepare a perfect spot in your garden!
Let’s get started!
Daisies Will Be Obsessed With The Heat From Your Garden
One thing that will definitely keep these lovely flowers blooming in your garden is the sun! Gerbera daisies are big fans of the sun. After all, they are summer flowers! So, you’ll need to place them in a sunny part of your yard.
If you happen to see on the forecast that it will be really hot outside, then you should provide them with some shade or their leaves might end up looking like they’ve been on a barbecue! If you see brown spots on your flowers, it’s time to move them away from direct sunlight.
In Summer, Gerberas Are As Thirsty As Marathon Runners
During the summer, the soil dries out faster, so it’s necessary to hydrate your daisies more often. On sunny days, water gerberas once a week, while in winter you can water them monthly.
When watering, you need to be careful. Make sure that the leaves remain dry to help the flowers bloom longer. Wetting the leaves can cause fungal infections in gerberas. So, that’s a big no-no!
Trimming Gerbera Flowers Is Key To Successful Blooming
Each time you trim wilted leaves, you’ll encourage the daisies to grow more! Trimming the central leaves allows the sun to reach the buds and make them bloom healthily.
It’s best to do this when the flowers are most active, typically during spring and summer. That’s when plants put all their energy into growing new flowers. Isn’t Mother Nature amazing?
Beware Of Pests That Can Destroy All Your Hard Work
Your flowers can be bothered by pests such as whiteflies, aphids, thrips, and spider mites. You might catch them feeding on plant juices. If you notice brown spots, it means the pests have snuck onto your flowers.
The first thing you can do is take a soft cloth and gently wipe over the leaves to remove them. If that doesn’t help, then you can use insecticidal soap. This should drive them away from your plants for good!
These flowers are truly a hit this season! With these tricks, you don’t have to worry about whether they will bloom or not! In fact, they will stay in your garden all summer long.
Gerberas have stolen the spotlight in my yard. Now it’s your turn! Get ready to start growing them and you’ll soon have the most beautiful floral display ever!
Good luck with your new plant!
