Do you want to make your sandwiches healthier? Well, I know about some young shoots that will be a perfect ingredient for your meals. Drum roll, please! It’s alfalfa sprouts!
Last year, I wanted to grow some healthy greenery, but I didn’t have enough space. Alfalfa sprouts turned out to be an excellent choice. You can even grow them in small jars!
They offer more benefits than you might think, from regulating blood sugar to helping you stay in shape. The best part is that you don’t have to wait for summer or spring to grow them. You can start right away inside your house!
Everything You’ll Need To Grow Alfalfa Sprouts Is Hiding In Your Home
Start by gathering a jar, a sprouting lid, and the main character – alfalfa sprouting seeds! You can also involve your kids in this project. Together, you’ll have so much fun!
Get one tablespoon of seeds and pour them into the jar. If you plan to eat them throughout the week, feel free to add more!
Fill the jar about halfway with water. Soak the seeds for six to twelve hours. After that, drain well and rinse the seeds. Make sure to repeat this process every day!
Place the jar in a cool spot away from direct sunlight. Don’t forget to position it upside down at a slight angle to allow any remaining water to drain out!
You’ll start to see the difference by the fourth day of growing. By the next day, they’ll be ready to see the light of day!
The Part You’ve All Been Waiting For
There’s only one step left! You need to rinse them again to remove the shells and chaff. After that, dry them off, and voila! They’re ready to be served!
You can use them in salads, sandwiches, or other dishes. Feel free to experiment! They can be cooked or eaten raw. The choice is yours!
If you notice they are starting to get slimy, don’t eat them. It’s best to store them in the fridge, where they can last up to three or four days.
I hope you’re ready to try this amazing experiment! It won’t take much time, only five days. That’s how long they take to be ready for your favorite recipes! Sounds incredible, right?
Once you see how easy it is to grow alfalfa sprouts, you’ll want to do it every month. I do it every two weeks. My housemates are obsessed with their delicious taste! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself filling five jars instead of just one!
