Don’t Use 10-10-10 Fertilizer For Your Lawn Until You Check This Out

Sharing is caring!

A thick, green lawn is the biggest dream of every yard owner! If only it was easy to get to this point without putting so much time and effort into maintenance.

Well, one step at a time! Correctly preparing soil for planting, sowing the seeds, and watering will give your lawn an excellent head start.

But there’s one thing you can do to speed things up and get the healthiest and greenest lawn: fertilize it! And one of the common choices of lawn owners is the famous 10-10-10 fertilizer.

From my experience, feeding lawns with the triple 10 gives brilliant results because it contains just the right amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

But.. (there’s always a but) You need to be very careful when you apply it because, if done at the wrong time, it’ll do more harm than good!

So, when exactly should you do it? The essential thing to know is that:

Your Climate And Type Of Grass Determine Everything!

There you have it! Before you apply your 10-10-10, you need to think about the temperature conditions in your area and the type of grass you grow.

For instance, if you live in Florida, Louisiana, or any other warmer climates, you’ll most likely grow warm-season grasses.

The end of spring or early summer is the ideal time to feed these grass types with 10-10-10 fertilizer.

On the other hand, if you live in Wyoming, Iowa, or other lower USDA zones, and you grow cool-season grasses, the best time to feed them is in fall or early spring.

Here’s What You Need To Know About Triple 10 Fertilizer

How do you know if 10-10-10 is a good fertilizer for your lawn? There’s one thing every lawn owner should do before deciding on a fertilizer.

Testing the soil is actually your golden ticket to a lush and green lawn.

Why? It gives you accurate information about the nutrients in the soil. If your soil lacks nitrogen, for example, then you’ll need a fertilizer with a higher N ratio.

A well-balanced fertilizer is a suitable choice if all the necessary nutrients are already in the soil. And 10-10-10 is an example of a good, well-balanced fertilizer,

The next thing to consider is which type of triple 10 fertilizer to use – you can choose between liquid and granular.

I often say that liquid fertilizers are for impatient growers who want to quickly see results. The only drawback is that you’ll need to apply it more frequently than the granular fertilizer.

On the other hand, granular 10-10-10 is easier to apply but it releases the nutrients slowly.

You can always go with environmentally-friendly options and choose organic triple 10

And This Is The Best Way To Use It

The only thing left to do is apply your triple 10. Your first step should be to mow your lawn approximately 2-3 days before fertilization.

Always water your lawn after mowing and make sure it dries well before feeding.

If you’re using the granular type, you’ll need a fertilizer spreader. Make sure you spread it evenly over the lawn.

You should be sure not to apply too much fertilizer in one spot since it could damage your grass severely.

If you have small children or pets, make sure to keep them away from your lawn for approximately 24 hours after fertilizer application.

The last step is to water your lawn and let the triple 10 do its magic!

Knowing when to use 10-10-10 fertilizer is essential for a happy and healthy lawn. With all the right knowledge at your fingertips, you’re ready to watch your lawn flourish!
