If You Want To Plant Garlic, The Most Beneficial Crop, Do It This Fall

Sharing is caring!

Fall is all about harvesting fresh, ripened crops from the garden. But did you know that there’s one more task you should add to your autumn to-do list? You might want to focus on planting garlic!

Garlic is one of the most beneficial veggies that you can grow in your yard. Besides helping boost your immune system, this crop can also repel pests that threaten your plants!

At first, I thought that growing garlic might be a little difficult, but boy was I mistaken! It is actually in the top three easiest crops I’ve ever grown. But it wouldn’t have been that easy if I hadn’t discovered when and how to plant it!

Thanks to these simple tips and tricks, I was rewarded with a great harvest. Now, I want to share with you the secrets I’ve learned through the years that will be very useful when starting with planting your garlic!

Let’s See Why Fall Is The Perfect Season To Start Planting Garlic

The first rule I learned when planting garlic is to never start planting until late September! Any time between that period and October will be ideal for planting garlic.

Why is it so important to do this task at a specific time? It’s because garlic needs chilly conditions to develop properly! This will give them enough time to establish their roots and provide you with a larger and more flavorful harvest next year.

Since the planting time is getting closer, you should clean your garden beds and prepare them for the garlic bulbs!

Planting Garlic Is Easier Than You Might Think

After you are done preparing a spot for these delicious crops in your garden beds, you’ll need to plant the garlic bulbs! Luckily, I know some great tips on how to make it easier for you. Let’s get growing!

Garlic will need a place that provides direct, full sun to grow best. If it is planted in partial shade, you’ll end up with a smaller bulb, so make sure that the garden bed is located in the sunniest part of your garden!

As for soil, garlic can adapt to any type, but it will do best if the soil is rich, well-drained, and pH neutral! Dig a hole one to three inches deep and space the bulbs six inches apart.

Put a layer of mulch using straw or grass clippings around the base of the plant. By doing this, you’ll keep your garlic weed-free, which will help it grow without any complications!

You’ll also need to water it right after planting to promote root growth before the frosty days arrive. Later in winter, when it is in its dormancy phase, there’s no need to continue! All that is left to do is monitor your garlic until June arrives.

Life Hack You’ll Need To Use After Harvesting To Keep Your Garlic Fresh For Months

You can start gathering your delicious garlic from June through September! How can you harvest it? Gently dig it out of the soil and remove the dirt! Don’t water it until you are ready to use the garlic for preparing meals.

The best trick to keep your garlic fresh for months is hanging it in a cool, dry place for about three weeks. By doing this, your crop will last for several months! Isn’t that awesome? Later, you can make your favorite recipes and enjoy its flavorful taste all winter long!

Take the opportunity this fall and plant garlic in your garden! Planting this veggie in the autumn is way more important than it seems. Garlic will have enough time to grow incredibly and provide you with lots of cloves when harvest time begins!

Now I can’t imagine not growing this amazing veggie in October. Ever since I started planting garlic, I have never been healthier! This crop helped me boost my health, and from now on I’m growing it every single year!

Since there’s not much time left, it’s best to prepare all the bulbs for planting. With these super easy tricks, planting will be a piece of cake for you!

Good luck!
