Propagate These 4 Delicious Veggies From Cuttings To Grow Free Plants Next Year

Sharing is caring!

How fun would it be if you could multiply your veggies just from cuttings? What if I told you that’s actually possible! Growing them this way is faster than seed propagation, which can take much longer.

Let me tell you my story about how I learned about propagation. In the very beginning of my planting and growing journey, I wanted to start a vegetable garden. I went to the store, bought some seeds, and started planting my veggies.

Since they were thriving in my garden and I ended up with a great harvest, I went to buy more seeds, but little did I know… the store was closed for good!

I didn’t want to sit down and do nothing, so as a gardening geek, I started doing some research on how to grow vegetables without seeds. That’s when I found out about propagating them from cuttings!

Ever since I discovered this method, I’ve been doing it every year and I get brand new delicious plants for free. Now let’s see the list of four vegetables that you can start propagating with!

#1 Reward Yourself With More Tomatoes For The Next Season

Tomatoes are an all-time favorite veggie around the world! Their delicious fruits filled with sweetness go well with every meal. If you want to get more tomatoes for the next season, here’s what you’ll need to do!

First things first, sharpen your shears and start cutting stems that are six to twelve inches long. Next, you’ll need a container filled with potting mix. Make sure that the soil is completely wet before placing the cuttings.

Now take your scissors and remove the leaves from the stem. Poke your finger all the way to the bottom of the container and place the tomato cutting in. After you’ve done that, place it in a semi-shady to full shade area

Roots will grow in ten days, and that’s when you should start preparing a place for the new tomato plant in your garden bed!

#2 You Can Never Have Enough Health-Boosting Onions From Cuttings

Onions are rich in chemicals that can help protect your heart! These veggies are real health-boosters that everyone should have in the kitchen.

As you can prepare them every day in salads or some other dishes, you might run out of these delicious crops. That’s when propagation will save the day!

All you need to do is cut about one inch off the base of the onions. Fill a container or a shallow bowl with an inch of water, and put the onion cuttings in there. Make sure that the roots are touching the water.

Place the container in a sunny spot because all the warmth and light will encourage shoots to grow quickly. After a few weeks, you’ll be able to spot shoots sprouting from the cuttings. If they are long enough, you can transplant them into soil or a garden bed!

#3 Are You Ready To Expand Your Pepper Collection?

Don’t you want to have a big collection of peppers? You can add them to every meal you’re making thanks to their amazing flavor! Peppers from your harvest may not be enough for everything you’ve planned on making.

That’s when you should start multiplying these colorful crops, and I know how to do it in the easiest way! Simply take a cutting from the plant and put it into a glass of water. Place the glass in a bright spot, but avoid direct sunlight.

Make sure to change the water in the glass every few days! Transplant your peppers after one month.

#4 Herbs Are Great To Sneak Onto Your Propagation List Too!

Not only can you multiply your delicious veggies, but also herbs from your garden! Some of the spices that you can propagate from cuttings are basil, mint, oregano, rosemary, and thyme. With this method, you’ll get an endless supply of herbs in your kitchen! Isn’t that great?

Use your scissors and cut a four to six inch long stem, then remove the leaves from it. Put the cutting in a glass filled with water. Keep the glass in a warm place with lots of indirect light! Also, don’t forget to change the water constantly.

After a couple of days, roots will start to grow and it will be ready for transplanting to the garden or a container!

Aren’t you excited about getting some free plants for next season? These easy methods of propagation will be really useful.

Next year, your garden will be filled with flavorful vegetables that you grow from just cuttings! Isn’t that incredible?

No more buying seeds when you know this amazing technique for getting more veggies! Now don’t waste any more time and start propagating. You’ll be astonished when you see your fresh and homemade veggies that will keep you healthy throughout the season!

Good luck!
