Beginner’s Tricks to Transform Your Balcony Into A Green Paradise

Sharing is caring!

Welcome, new gardeners!

A little bird told me you want to create your own garden on the balcony. A terrace is a fantastic option if you don’t have enough space in your backyard. There’s nothing to worry about because it’s even simpler than taking care of a whole yard!

I remember when I first started filling my balcony with plants. At first, it was a bit of a failure because I wasn’t paying attention to the more important things! There are steps you’ll need to follow to make it perfect, but luckily, they’re quite easy.

You’ll be amazed at how a small space can be transformed with larger plants. The sky’s the limit for enthusiastic gardeners, right? And wait until you find out about edible plants, you might become obsessed with them!

Make Sure That Safety Comes First

Gardening on a balcony can be such a fun experience. If you have an adventurous spirit, that’s definitely a plus! I still use my to-do list, which covers everything from start to finish, like a journey. I can’t imagine planning anything without my pen and paper!

The first thing on the list is to check the weight-bearing capacity of your terrace. This step is important if you plan to use raised beds or large containers.

That’s why you should ask the building manager how much weight your balcony can handle! I always consult with professionals when it comes to safety.

You’ll Need to Check Sun Exposure Too

First, you’ll need to do some scouting to check how much sun your terrace gets. Next, choose the varieties that can handle that amount of sunlight.

South or east-facing balconies are best for growing fruits and flowering plants. East and north-facing balconies receive less sunlight, so they are better for leafy plants.

This Is the Ideal Container Height To Make Your Plants Thrive

Plants in pots will dry out quicker than those in soil, especially in smaller containers. However, they are easier to handle than larger ones.

It all depends on what you plan to grow. For example, a seven-gallon container is great for edible crops, while an eighteen-inch diameter container is ideal for fruits and veggies like tomatoes.

I’ve always preferred smaller pots because they are more practical. You might want to experiment with window boxes for your flowers. I have two for my lovely petunias! They make adorable decorations for the balcony.

The Part You’ve All Been Waiting For

Planting is definitely the most interesting part! I also couldn’t wait to buy some seeds for my favorite plants and get to work. Here are some amazing, delicious crops that would be perfect for your balcony!

You should start with basil, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, lavender, jasmine, or petunias. I told you there are edible plants that you’ll love!

The best part is that they’ll be just a few steps away from your kitchen. Sounds like you’ll be making some delicious soups or salads! All of these plants are low-maintenance, so you won’t have to spend hours gardening on your terrace.

These tricks will definitely help you as a beginner. You’ll finally be able to start gardening on your terrace just by following these steps! It’s great that you can still enjoy your favorite hobby even without a large garden.

My terrace has been filled with greenery since I started. It’s my safe place! Whenever I feel stressed from work, I turn to planting and decorating on my balcony. Get as many seeds as your space allows and start your journey right away!

Good luck!
