Grow This Hummingbird Favorite From Seed And Watch Your Garden Thrive

Sharing is caring!

If you love hummingbirds as much as I do (and honestly, who doesn’t?), you’ll know there’s something absolutely mesmerizing about watching them zip around, hovering mid-air, like tiny, magical creatures.

I’ve tried everything to keep these little guys hanging around longer (fillers, feeders, you name it), but nothing quite compares to growing my own hummingbird magnet: zinnias.

Trust me, once you plant these vibrant beauties from seed, your garden will be buzzing (or should I say zipping?) with these colorful creatures in no time.

Just stick around and I’ll share how I made my yard a hummingbird hotspot!

Why Zinnias Are The Hummingbird’s Favorite Snack

I was never much of a “plant person” until I realized that zinnias, with their bold colors and super-friendly blooms, were hummingbird favorites.

Honestly, I thought I needed to do some complicated gardening magic to lure these little acrobats in. Turns out, I just needed to plant zinnias

These colorful annuals produce nectar that hummingbirds can’t resist. They hover, dart around, and stay for a while – making it feel like I’ve turned my garden into a hummingbird paradise.

What’s also great is that zinnias come in so many colors, so your yard can look like a rainbow exploded in the best way possible.

Planting Zinnias Is Easy Peasy (Seriously)

Now, if you’re worried about the whole “growing from seed” thing, don’t be!

Zinnias are incredibly easy to grow, even for someone who thought “rooting” meant taking a nap under a tree. All you need is to plant zinnias at the right time and give them some sunshine and well-draining soil to thrive.

Yes, these beauties thrive in direct sunlight, so choose a sunny spot in your garden – preferably somewhere that could use a pop of color.

You can also add some zinnia companion plants nearby to make sure they grow nice and strong.

And the best part is that these flowers grow fast. Like, really fast. You can expect blooms in just two months. They’ll go from seeds to hummingbird magnets in the blink of an eye!

Spacing For Success (Give ‘Em Room To Zoom!)

Zinnias aren’t picky, but they do appreciate their space – after all, we all need a little personal room, right?

So, when you’re planting, make sure you space them about 4 to 24 inches apart, depending on the variety. I’ve learned the hard way that cramming too many together makes them compete for sunshine, and we don’t want that.

Think of it as giving them room to grow and giving the hummingbirds plenty of space to hover between them.

By now, your garden should be on its way to becoming the hummingbird hotspot of the neighborhood.

With just a little effort and some simple zinnias, you’ll have hummingbirds flocking to your space, adding a touch of magic to every visit.

And let’s be real – it’s one thing to watch a hummingbird at a feeder, but it’s an entirely different experience when they’re practically hanging out at your place.
Once you try this, you’ll never look at your garden (or hummingbirds) the same way again!
