Prepare Petunias For Spectacular Blooms In Your Garden All Summer Long

Sharing is caring!

One of the best decorations for your garden are the colorful flowers of sweet petunias! If you plant them once, it means that your yard will welcome these beautiful plants every season after.

My friendly advice is to choose as many colors as the petunia offers! By doing so, you will bring a tiny little rainbow to your garden!

Prepare a spa day for your flower besties so you can enjoy them all summer long. It’s quite simple and you’re gonna love it!

Give Your Petunias The Attention And Good Care They Deserve

Petunias are great for beginners, so if you’re new to gardening, that’s great news! These cuties are one of the easiest plants to maintain and you will only have to invest minimal effort!

  • Place them in a sunny part of your garden! It is necessary for their flowers to receive at least 6 hours of light. The sun will give petunias the necessary energy for growth and flowering!
  • Be careful about watering! Just like you crave a refreshing drink on hot summer days, petunias need hydration too.

Only water them once a week and be sure their soil is never too wet. In hotter climates, you may need to water them more often. If you notice your petunias are dry, make sure to give them a cold drink!

  • Feed them! Like all plants, your petunias are hungry and need a good lunch from you. They love fertilizers that contain phosphorus the most, it’s their favorite treat!

It’s also a good idea to add some compost to the mix. Start feeding them as soon as you see the first flowers bloom, and continue doing so every two weeks!

  • Give them a haircut! It’s time to become a hairdresser and trim your sweet petunias. You should shorten the stems by one-fifth of their total length

Always leave one or two sets of leaves to encourage the growth of new flowers, resulting in more beautiful blooms.

This is all you need to do. It’s not hard, though! Trust me, the effort will pay off in the end.

Watch Out For Pests, Which Can Be Real Troublemakers For Your Plants

The worst thing you could see on your plants is wilted leaves that have changed color. Do you know what that means? It can only be one thing, annoying pests have been attracted to your flowers.

The list includes spider mites, caterpillars, and aphids. These “bad guys” will enjoy your flowers because they feed on their juices.

How can you drive them away? Insecticidal soaps will be your savior! With this magic potion, you should get rid of them for good.

Another interesting “enemy” is rabbits! If you have one as a pet or live in an area where they are frequent guests, these little bunnies might enjoy nibbling on your flowers. The only solution is to raise your petunias to a higher place!

Plant Petunias In Hanging Baskets Or Window Boxes For An Amazing View

After becoming a true expert on petunias, it’s time to choose the best planting spots! The top choice is undoubtedly hanging baskets. Just imagine your little petunias swaying in them! You can buy knitted baskets to add an extra touch of beauty to their cozy home.

Let’s not forget about the window box! It’ll receive plenty of sunlight and it will give you the perfect view.

Now that you’re ready, run to the store and buy some seeds! Trust me, this will be one of the best decisions you ever make.

Come on now, give them good care and enjoy their blooms!
