You Won’t Believe How Easy It Is To Start Gardening On An East-Facing Balcony

Sharing is caring!

You’re really lucky if your balcony faces east! It’s perfect for gardening because of the mix of sun and shade. My terrace faces east, luckily! At first, I had no clue what to grow. So many ideas came to my mind! For the first two months, I did some research.

I placed different kinds of flowers and veggies to see which ones would succeed. It gave off a jungle vibe because there was so much greenery.

After some time passed, I finally discovered which plants are perfect for the conditions that an east-facing side provides. They’re still happily blooming without any complications!

That’s why you need to clean up the space and bring out the containers! It’s time to make a green oasis on your terrace happen!

You Can Grow Veggies On Your Terrace

You can start with spinach, radish, lettuce, carrots, and kale. Make sure to plant them in containers, and they don’t even need to be large. They’ll do well in smaller ones too!

As for watering, everything on this list only needs to be watered once a week. They don’t need direct sunlight to grow, which will be perfect for the conditions on your balcony! Some shade will be the perfect extra touch for their healthy growth!

The best part is that when it’s time to harvest, they’ll be just a few steps away from you! You won’t have to walk miles from the garden to the kitchen! In fact, salads or other dishes will be ready in the blink of an eye.

You’ll have fresh, homemade veggies to use in your favorite recipes! Sounds good, right?

Shade-Loving Plants Will Be Perfect For Your Balcony

Now is the time for the charming part of your mini garden! These flowers will be obsessed with the early morning sun on your balcony, just like you when you have the first coffee before heading to work! After that, they will receive shade in the afternoon, which makes their growth spectacular!

Let’s check the perfect candidates! You can grow marigolds, dahlias, philodendron, hydrangeas, lilies, and begonias. I have been faithful to these blossoms for years! They are still the honored VIP guests of my terrace.

The most exciting part of my day is when I step out to breathe some fresh air and enjoy the company of these plants. They always leave me speechless.

You will need to water them every three days, except for these two flowers. Hydrangeas will need to be watered three times a week, and begonias every two to four days!

Continue Your Small Garden In The Winter By Choosing Evergreens

Who says flowering is over in winter! Holly, camellia, lavender, azalea, and hebe will prove that it can be possible. That’s all thanks to the east-facing balcony, because they will be protected during cold days. They will enjoy the morning sun and the coolness that follows throughout the day

I’ve tried growing them all because I’m a big fan of evergreens, and so far I haven’t had any problems. I love seeing a colorful garden on my terrace during the gray period. It will make you happy too because you’ll have the prettiest view!

You’ll water them once a week. The only thing to watch out for is that water doesn’t freeze during low temperatures. Make sure to check on them every month to prevent this from happening!

Now there’s no room for pessimism, right? You’ve seen that it’s possible to have your own little garden on an east-facing balcony! I feel the same way. Now, thanks to giving it a try, I have freshly homemade veggies and good-looking flowers!

Isn’t it better to have everything just a few steps away from you? No more walking around the garden and spending hours on it! So, get your balcony ready because it’s your turn now! It’s time to create your own little floral paradise!
