Growing hummingbird mint is among the easiest plants I’ve ever grown! It’s even great for beginners, so if you’re one of them, feel free to give this plant a chance to bloom in your garden! Here are the tricks you’ll need to follow to make this plant thrive in your yard!

  • You won’t need to water it daily. In the beginning, before the plant is established, you should water it once a week. Later, you can do it once every couple of months!

Hummingbird mint is a drought-tolerant plant, which is why it can even grow in desert conditions. Isn’t that awesome?

  • Place hummingbird mint in this type of soil. Hummingbird mint can be placed in any type of soil, from loamy and sandy to clay and even rocky soils.

But where this plant grows the best is in well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 8.0. This will lead to the best results, which means more colorful blooms!

  • Be careful with fertilizer. You’ll probably be surprised when I tell you that this plant doesn’t need any fertilizer. Adding it might prevent the plant from blooming.

Hummingbird mint should be able to access all the nutrients it needs for growth from the soil. So, fertilizer is off the list!

  • Choose the sunniest spot in your garden. If you want the best results for growing this plant, place it in direct sun! It needs six hours of sunlight to thrive in your garden.

Planting hummingbird mint is just as easy as growing it. You should wait until after the frost has passed, in early spring, to plant it. But if you’re impatient and can’t wait for spring to come, here’s some good news – you can plant it in the upcoming fall!

Here’s how to do it! Sow the seeds directly in the ground and press them about 1/4 inch deep into the soil. Water them well and they should germinate by spring! That’s all the work you’ll need to do. Easy as a pie, right?

Now you know how to grow and plant hummingbird mint like a professional! You should start this journey right after fall comes, which will be really soon. It will be fully bloomed by next summer!

Boy, next season your garden will be filled with all kinds of different pollinators. Isn’t that great? They will enjoy the delicious nectar, paying you a visit every single day! I won’t keep you any longer because you have some planting to do.

Good luck!
