Rise and shine!
It’s a beautiful day to head out into the garden and dive into your favorite hobby. Unfortunately, your mood may be spoiled by a mosquito bite.
With the arrival of high temperatures, they are becoming frequent guests in gardens. There’s nothing worse than the itch that follows a bite. It’s unbearable!
A few months ago, I found some flowers that mosquitoes can’t stand. Until today, there’s no trace of these annoying insects in my yard. You know what’s best of all? Those same plants managed to attract adorable butterflies!
Every day, I have the opportunity to enjoy watching them fly from one blossom to another. They’re not even difficult to grow. Finally, this season you’ll be able to focus on your gardening tasks without getting bitten or spending money on expensive mosquito sprays!
#1 Fennel Leaves Can Benefit You In Many Ways
Fennel will drive away any mosquito from your garden! But it will also attract butterflies by providing them with an irresistible treat.
Plant it in the sunny part of your garden. As for watering, just hydrate young fennel for the first couple of months. Believe it or not, after that, there’s no need for water! These plants are drought-resistant, so they will happily bloom in the sun.
Later, you can make tea from this plant, which is great for your health. Save it for autumn when flu season starts. If you drink it regularly, you won’t have any trace of a cold!
#2 Chemicals Produced By Eucalyptus Will Drive Mosquitoes Away from Your Garden
Mosquitoes will run away from chemicals like linalool and geraniol, which are produced by this plant! On the other hand, butterflies will love drinking nectar from eucalyptus flowers. You’ll see them coming to your flowers every day when they get hungry. It’s a win-win!
Eucalyptus will need eight to ten hours of sunlight. It’s important to choose the right spot for its healthy growth. You should water it once a week.
#3 Butterflies Will Adore Your Great-Smelling Rosemary
If you plant rosemary, expect your garden to be flooded with colorful butterflies! Always have a camera ready to capture that adorable moment. My gallery is full of their cute pictures!
While your garden will be filled with colorful butterflies, mosquitoes will avoid it.
One secret trick that will be of great help to you is that rosemary goes well with steak! If you’re preparing a barbecue, sprinkle this herb on the meat. It will give the most irresistible flavor to your food, while the smoke will drive away all mosquitoes from your garden!
Rosemary will need full sunlight to bloom! As for watering, do it every one or two weeks.
#4 Welcome New Pollinators By Planting Bee Balm
The scent of this fantastic flower will make all the mosquitoes disappear from your garden!
On the other hand, besides attracting butterflies, it will also bring bees and hummingbirds into your yard. You’ll have sweet scenes of these pollinators dancing around your plants. Isn’t that fantastic?
Bee balm will thrive best in the sun. It needs six hours of direct sunlight. You can water it every seven to ten days!
#5 Give Your Garden A Colorful Landscape With Mums
Here come the mums! Colorful flowers that mosquitoes absolutely hate. You know who loves them? You guessed it right, butterflies! So, place these blossoms around your patio and you’ll have the most amazing view.
Mums will grow best in full sun. They don’t like dry soil at all! So, you’ll need to water them every other day.
#6 Even Your Cats Will Become Obsessed With Catmint
Besides attracting butterflies to your garden, don’t be surprised if you catch your cats rolling around in catmint. They adore it!
As for mosquitoes, they won’t be the ones enjoying these flowers. They can’t stand it, especially catmint oil. You can even try making a spray to fight against them at home!
Plant it in a sunny part of your garden that gets afternoon shade. This way, you’ll provide it with perfect growing conditions. Water it every two to four days, and only when the soil is dry!
#7 Calendula, A Plant That Mosquitoes Hate But Butterflies Love
Calendula is a beautiful plant that looks like marigold. Both will help you in dealing with mosquitoes. And it will be a real hit with butterflies! They love to sip delicious nectar from these flowers.
These blossoms will need to be placed in full sun. You’ll have to water them every day because calendula can be stressed if it doesn’t have enough moisture!
That’s a long list of flowers, isn’t it? Perhaps your favorite is hiding among them! Whichever one you choose, you won’t go wrong. All these beautiful blossoms will help you drive away every mosquito out there! Most importantly, they will attract colorful butterflies that will visit you daily!
Prepare your garden for a big welcoming party and plant some of these flowers! You’ll have the prettiest view of your garden!
