I always strive to keep my flower beds looking their best, but grass keeps sneaking in and ruining the look. Well, not anymore!
I tried many different tricks to prevent grass from invading my flower beds, and one method really stood out. Now, my flower bed looks like a pristine garden, not a wild lawn-flower mix like it used to.
If you’re dealing with the same issue, stick around as I’m about to share the secret trick that helped me get rid of grass completely!
You Might Think Mulch Is A Good Option, But There’s Actually Something Better
When this first started happening to me, I was thinking mulch might be the perfect solution. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Mulch made everything messier, and there were still some grass blades protruding through it (not the kind of scenery you want to see in your garden beds).
Luckily, groundcover plants are here to save the day (in ways mulch just couldn’t).
First off, these little guys aren’t just pretty faces. They’re soil savers, too. These plants improve your soil by preventing erosion and adding nutrients as they grow and decompose. They’re also great at holding onto soil moisture, which means you can say goodbye to constant watering.
Next, they are great for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. They can boost a garden’s biodiversity and naturally get rid of weeds (there’s no need to use harsh chemical herbicides anymore).
They’re great for aesthetics. Mulch might tidy up, but groundcovers are like accessories in flower beds. They fill gaps, add textures, and make those flowers pop.
And finally, ground cover plants are relatively low-maintenance, so they’ll save you plenty of time and effort!
Why settle for a plain, mulchy garden when you can choose groundcover plants that are a million times better?

There Are Tons Of Fantastic Ground Covers To Choose From
When I decided to go with ground cover plants to replace my grass, I was amazed by how many delightful options I could pick from (you get to match your garden’s vibe and your local climate!).
These were my top two choices:
Sweet woodruff – ideal for USDA hardiness zones 4 to 8, it’s a great choice for planting around the base of trees or under broad-leaved flowers. In spring, your garden will be filled with white flowers and their sweet fragrance. Plus, it’s pretty low-maintenance, making it a fantastic pick for gardening newbies.
Creeping thyme – is like a natural air freshener for the garden. It’s perfect for full sun gardens in zones 4 to 9. Not only does it withstand drought like a true champ, but it also releases a lovely aroma when you step on it. It’s a great choice for those who want a garden that smells as good as it looks without a lot of extra work.
I am personally a fan of these two. In case you don’t fancy any of these ground covers, you can find more options here: Creative & Simple Ground Cover Ideas For A Stunning Landscape
