Hey there, new gardeners!
Are you ready to start your gardening adventure? It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by all the things you need to get started. I felt the same way, stressing over what to buy first! Years ago, when I first started my gardening journey, I did a lot of research.
Luckily, I found some great tools that turned out to be very helpful. I also remember when my old neighbor shared some amazing tips with me. She loves stopping by my yard and proudly seeing how far I’ve come.
Since you’re a beginner, I’m not going to keep it a secret anymore! I’m so excited for the opportunity to share my favorite tools with you.
#1 Buy This to Avoid Getting Thorns in Your Hands
Gloves were the first thing I bought. They should be on your shopping list, too! If you decide to grow roses, Duranta, or Bougainvillea, you’ll definitely need them. They can save your hands from painful thorns.
They also help you avoid dirt while planting, especially if you’ve done your nails! It can take forever to clean them up, but with gloves, that won’t happen.
#2 Keep Your Plants Happy With A Watering Can
If you have a small garden, then a watering can is the perfect choice! It’s always good to have one or two around your plants, especially if you’ve planted them in pots or containers.
A watering can makes watering easier, and you’ll be able to keep your flowers happy by giving them enough refreshment!
You should choose a metal can because it’s more durable than plastic. When you’re not using it, you can leave it on the grass to collect rainwater. There are many beneficial reasons to start harvesting rainwater!
Watering cans come in many different cute patterns or shapes. I have a pink one shaped like a flamingo!
#3 Let’s See Which Tool Is A Must-Have For Digging
The right answer is a spade! It’s the best tool for digging or shoveling materials like compost. But you’ll need to know how to choose one wisely!
When you go to buy a spade, select one that isn’t too heavy and see how it sits in your hand. I remember that I spent about an hour choosing mine until I found the perfect one! It’s still in my garden, helping me to this very day!
#4 Your Back Will Love This One
You don’t want to end up with bad posture, right? That’s why you need a kneeler! This tool saved my back, and it’s still working perfectly.
It will make your planting, mulching, or pruning much easier. Just place it near your plants, and you won’t have to bend over hundreds of times a day! It may seem funny, but at least you won’t wake up with pain.
#5 Essential Gear For Moving Your Yard Materials
If you have a large garden, you might need a wheelbarrow. Imagine handling all the gardening materials by yourself, that’s mission impossible!
But if you get a wheelbarrow right before you start your adventure, moving eighty pounds of soil will be a piece of cake for you!
I even use mine for harvesting fruit from the trees. It’s also an ideal option if you want to grow apples. Just put the fruit in the wheelbarrow and wheel it to your kitchen!
These five tools will be the perfect option for starting your gardening journey. Later, you’ll need to equip yourself with more gear, but for now, this is all that’s needed.
Even today, I still use these tools, they are definitely essential for every gardener. Now you can start making your list and go for a little shop! This is your beginner’s guide to becoming a real green thumb!
Good luck!
