This Is The Best Time To Plant Winter Pansies For A Flourishing Garden During Snowy Days

Sharing is caring!

If you think that a winter garden can’t have a little pop of color, you’re wrong!

Pansies are one of the cutest flowers that you can add to your yard this winter. Their beautiful white, yellow, pink, purple, and red petals add a spring feeling for those who are missing the sunny season!

I also feel nostalgic during winter, so I started searching for plants that could withstand cold days in my garden. Pansies turned out to be a big hit!

Even though I live in a place where the temperature becomes a little bit too cold, I didn’t have any problems growing them. I even found some amazing tricks that helped me a lot when they started to bloom!

When it comes to planting, pansies might become tricky. You’ll need to choose the right month for planting, or your pansies unfortunately won’t produce any flowers! Now let’s see if you’ve missed the opportunity to plant them or if you’re right on time.

When Should You Start Planting Ice Pansies?

Pansies should be planted right NOW in September for the best results! This should be one of the must-do gardening tasks on your list this September. What if you miss it? There’s no need to worry about that because October is also a good option for planting!

Wondering why it’s important to plant them in one of these two months? The answer is simple, they will have enough time to establish their roots because the soil will still be warm. If you try planting pansies in late fall, you’ll end up with less vibrant and smaller flowers.

Now I’m going to share the easiest planting technique you need to use! Space the pansy seeds five to ten inches apart to allow enough space for roots to develop. Use potting soil and make sure that the pot has lots of drainage holes!

Sow the seeds five to ten inches deep and gently cover them with soil. If you happen to live in an area where temperatures get colder than usual, put mulch around your plants so they won’t freeze!

Easy Caring Tips That Will Help Your Pansies Thrive Through Winter

Pansies are one of the easiest plants you can grow! These flowers just need a little bit of your attention, and they will bloom like never before! Here are some of the tricks that have proven to be good for your pansies.

  • Make sure to place pansies in the right spot. Put the pots in a sunny place in your garden where they will receive at least six hours of direct sun every day!
  • Don’t forget to water them. Pansies prefer moist soil, but it shouldn’t be too wet. That’s why you’ll need to water them once a week or if you notice that the soil feels dry.
  • Give them a little haircut. You can remove some spent flower heads by trimming the stems back with shears. This will help the pansies develop more beautiful flowers!
  • Apply fertilizer. Start fertilizing pansies every two to three weeks with a 15-30-15 fertilizer. Before doing so, make sure to moisten the soil with water first!
  • Be aware of pests. Even though they are pest-free there are still a few you should pay attention to! Aphids, slugs, and snails are the ones that love sucking the sap from your flowers, which will be harmful to the plant’s leaves.

If you notice them on your flowers, try using neem oil or insecticidal soaps. You can even spray them off your plants with strong water pressure!

Now that you know that September and October are best for planting pansies, you should start right away! These tricks will be very useful when planting and growing them. You’ll be able to do it in the easiest way!

A few days ago, I finished planting mine, too! Now I’m just waiting eagerly for them to bloom. They always leave me breathless when they start to bloom in my garden!

Isn’t it great that you’ll finally get a colorful display in the winter? Trust me, you’ll be amazed by these showstoppers when they start thriving in the cold season!
