Overwatering Can Cause Stress To Your Lavender
First, you need to know how much water lavender needs. You’ll need to refresh this plant every two to three weeks! You might think that’s not very often, but these flowers are drought-tolerant and they need a lot of sun to bloom!
If you overwater, it can lead to water collecting at the bottom, which causes rot. The next part is something you don’t want to hear: all of this can be responsible for the drooping leaves.
If that happens, check if the roots are brown. If they are, trim off the damaged parts and replant them in a sandy soil mix. This should help your lavender and save it in time!
Using Too Much Fertilizer Isn’t The Best Option
Remember, lavender doesn’t need fertilizer to bloom. It thrives best in lean to average soils. I made a mistake here, thinking they needed lots of nitrogen for healthy growth. It turned out to be completely the opposite!
Lots of nutrients will actually only lead to weaker stems. This will result in wilting and affect the health of your plants. So, next time think twice before you go shopping for fertilizers!
Watch Out For The Summer Heatwave
As you know, lavender is quite heat-resistant. It’s important to place it in a sunny spot in your garden, whether you plant in containers or flower beds. Six to eight hours spent in the sun will be ideal for the growth of these flowers.
But there’s a catch! Temperatures over 90°F can be very stressful for lavender. It can cause leaf burns and make the flowers droop. The best option would be to provide some shade or, if you planted them in pots, bring them indoors until the hot summer days pass!
Pests And Diseases Might Be Causing Your Plant To Wilt
If you see your lavender leaves suddenly wilting, that could mean that insects are visiting your garden. The list of pests is actually pretty big for this plant!
Aphids, scale insects, spider mites, and whiteflies will feed on your plant’s juices. You can stop them by using insecticidal soap or strong water pressure.
There’s also a fungal disease called shab that can cause drooping leaves. This disease appears in early spring. It’s important to inspect your lavender daily. How can you deal with this? It’s best to remove the damaged plant leaves and move them away from that area – don’t put them in your compost!
It feels good to know what causes lavender drooping, right? After learning this, my flowers are now blooming incredibly in the garden! The best part is that wilting is nowhere to be found on my lavender.
